Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic (whole-body) systems. It was developed thousands of years ago in India. Ayurveda in Sanskrit means “the science of life” or “knowledge of life”. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurvedic philosophy indicates that everything in the universe is made up of 5 elements: fire, air, water, earth, and ether. These elements are combined under 3 energies, known as Doshas (body constitutions). Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are the three Doshas that represent the life forces that combine and balance the characteristics of the element it influences. One’s goal is for complete balance of your Doshas.
